Consolidated Disposal Service (CDS) is delighted to be the City of Redondo Beach's choice provider for citywide solid waste, green waste and recycling services effective November 1, 2003. The current contract with Waste Management of Los Angeles expires October 31, 2003. You can expect your collection service to improve while enjoying the benefits of new and enhanced programs.
The need to recycle has never been greater. Only a citywide recycling effort can help Redondo Beach reduce the amount of material sent to the landfills and meet Statemandated requirements for solid waste diversion. To achieve these goals, residents will receive a new blue standard size 65 gallon RECYCLING CART ON WHEELS that makes commingled recycling easier and allows the City to further automate the threecart collection process. (Different size carts will be available on a case-by-case basis). The refuse (gray) and green waste (green) carts will not change. Further information on cart delivery and instructions will be mailed to your home in the next few weeks.
Green Waste Collection program will be offered to multi-family buildings and commercial establishments effective November 1, 2003. The charge will be comparable to the rate of singlefamily service customers.
Bulky Item Pick-up program will be enhanced to include a no charge service for MultiFamily residents (apartments, condos, etc.) effective November 1, 2003. CDS will pickup large or bulky household items, such as refrigerators, mattresses, couches and other furniture and appliances from all residents free of charge.
Electronic Waste will continue to be accepted at the City's Community Hazardous Waste Collection Facility at 2420 Marine Ave, Redondo Beach. Items such as computer equipment, televisions, stereo audio equipment or any item with a circuit board will be accepted by all residents. Hours of operation are Wednesday -Saturday from 9:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. Proof of residency required.
Beautification Grant program is a new program effective April 1, 2004 that will make funds available via grants to homeowners associations, neighborhood groups, apartment buildings that have recycle bins, schools, and libraries for activities that beautify areas visible from public rights-of-way. The schools and libraries must provide matching funds to be eligible. Funds will only be available to applicants with recycling programs. This grant program will be funded from a portion of the recycling revenue generated from the residential recycling program. It is designed to encourage recycling, because the more the community recycles, the more grant funding will be available. Company Description
Consolidated Disposal Service, L.L.C. is the Los Angeles County operating division and wholly owned subsidiary of Republic Services, Inc. Republic, the nation's third largest solid waste services provider, has consolidated several of the premiere solid waste and recycling companies in Southern California into a highly effective, cohesive unit. Additionally, Consolidated is able to draw on the significant resources of our Orange County sister company, Taormina Industries, which services approximately 1,000,000 residential and commercial customers in the Counties of Orange and San Bernardino, and operates one of the largest Materials Recovery and Waste Transfer Station facilities in North America (CVT). Together, our solid waste and recycling services impact the daily lives of millions of Southern Californians.
Consolidated is the 2nd largest integrated waste management company in Los Angeles County. This, in part, is due to the fact that the vast majority of our employee base comes from the many companies we have merged with and that were rooted in the service history of the Los Angeles marketplace. We have strived to maintain the unique personality and spirit of these many companies and their employees, while benefiting from their combined resources, knowledge and experience. There is no other company in Los Angeles County that blends these same attributes into a single cohesive operating unit.
In the Los Angeles County area, Consolidated operates 23 exclusive municipal franchise contracts as well as a number of non-exclusive franchise contracts. The company owns and operates a materials recovery facility, three transfer stations and one of the largest landfills in the United States. From our operating facilities in Long Beach, Los Angeles, Gardena, and the San Fernando Valley, along with our corporate office in Santa Fe Springs, the company manages over 350 trucks and 800 employees. Locally, Consolidated provides waste collection, yard waste, recycling and disposal services to over 1,000,000 residents, and commercial waste collection and recycling services to about 40,000 commercial businesses.
